Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')

The track arrived as the lead single from T-Pain's second studio album, Epiphany, officially hitting radio waves on March 10, 2007. While initial reports suggested a February release, the song solidified its place in mid-2000s culture by blending contemporary R&B with the rhythmic bounce of snap music. This subgenre relied on minimalistic beats, heavy basslines, and distinct clapping sounds that defined the Atlanta rap scene and club environment of the era.

T-Pain produced the entire record himself, composing the music and applying his signature vocal processing using Auto-Tune to create a melodic effect rather than just correcting pitch. The lyrical content was a collaboration between T-Pain, Yung Joc, and Kanye West. A lesser-known detail about the song's history involves a near-miss with R&B singer Mario; T-Pain revealed in 2020 that Mario had originally been slated to record the track before he secured the rights and brought Yung Joc in for the feature.

The production layer includes samples from Lil Scrappy's "Money in the Bank" and Yung Joc's own "It's Goin' Down," alongside a sample of "Snap Yo Fingers" by Lil Jon. Upon release, the single peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top spot on the Hot Rap Songs chart. It eventually earned Platinum certification from the RIAA for selling over one million units in the United States. [edit]
