Bugzy Malone

Malone's measurable achievements are commercial and geographic rather than ceremonial. He was the first grime artist from Manchester to achieve commercial success across the UK, a distinction that mattered in a genre whose infrastructure sat almost entirely in London. Three releases in a row reached the UK top ten, and the highest of them was an EP, which is a harder thing to place than an album. His crossover into film came through casting rather than campaigning: Guy Ritchie put him in The Gentlemen, and the Top Boy team gave him a recurring role. For a rapper with no acting training on the record, that is an unusual pair of credits. No honours, hall of fame inductions or record-book entries are documented.
