Brentford Football Club, nicknamed "The Bees," is a professional association football club based in Brentford, West London. Founded on October 10, 1889, the club has a rich history spanning over 130 years. For much of its existence, Brentford called Griffin Park its home, a stadium located in the heart of the local community that served as the club's venue for over a century, from 1904 until 2020. In August 2020, the club moved to the modern, all-seater Brentford Community Stadium, which has a capacity of approximately 17,250 spectators and is also shared with London Irish rugby union club.

Brentford currently competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football, having secured promotion from the EFL Championship at the end of the 2020–21 season. The club's league history includes stints in the First Division (now Premier League) during the 1935–36 and 1938–39 seasons, with a best-ever finish of fifth place in 1935–36. In the modern era, Brentford has achieved notable success in the lower divisions, winning the Football League Third Division South title in 1932–33 and the Football League Second Division (now Championship) title in 1991–92. More recently, the club reached the Championship play-off final in 2020 and 2021, winning the latter 2–0 against Swansea City to earn promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 1947. Other major achievements include reaching the semi-finals of the EFL Cup in 2020–21 and the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in 1946 and 1949.

The club's "Moneyball" approach to recruitment, highlighted by its analytics-driven scouting system under owner Matthew Benham, has become a hallmark of its modern identity, enabling the team to compete effectively despite a smaller budget compared to many Premier League rivals. Brentford was founded on October 10, 1889, by a group of local rowers and sportsmen. The club turned professional in 1899 and joined the Southern League. They moved to Griffin Park in 1904, a stadium that would become synonymous with the club for the next 116 years. Brentford won the Third Division South title in 1932–33 under manager Harry Curtis, earning promotion to the Second Division. Two seasons later, they won the Second Division championship in 1934–35, reaching the First Division for the first time. The 1935–36 season saw them finish fifth, their highest-ever league finish, but they were relegated in 1936–37. They returned to the top flight for the 1938–39 season but were relegated again after the war.

The post-war years saw Brentford struggle in the second and third tiers. They were relegated to the Fourth Division in 1962 but bounced back as champions in 1963–64. The club yo-yoed between divisions over the decades. A bright spot came in 1991–92 when they won the Third Division title under manager Phil Holder. However, financial troubles and near-relegation to the Conference in 2007 prompted a change in ownership. Matthew Benham, a lifelong fan and former professional gambler, took over in 2012. His data-driven approach transformed the club. Under managers Mark Warburton and Dean Smith, Brentford climbed from League One to the Championship.
