    Overview

Breitbart News Network, often shortened to Breitbart News or just Breitbart, is an American digital media outlet that blends news, opinion, and commentary. Founded in 2007 by conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart, the site was initially pitched as a right-wing alternative to the Huffington Post. Over time, it became a key platform for the alt-right and a loudspeaker for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. Under former executive chairman Steve Bannon, who called it "the platform for the alt-right," the site courted controversy by publishing conspiracy theories, misleading stories, and content that academics and journalists have labeled misogynistic, xenophobic, and racist. It also promoted climate change denial and COVID-19 misinformation.

The site's influence peaked during the 2016 election, when its Facebook posts ranked among the most shared political content. But after Trump's victory, advertisers fled. More than 2,000 organizations pulled their ads following campaigns by Internet activists. Traffic dropped sharply: from 17.3 million monthly readers in early 2017 to 4.6 million in May 2019, and to around 700,000 by 2024. Breitbart is headquartered in Los Angeles, with bureaus in Texas, London, and Jerusalem. Co-founder Larry Solov is co-owner alongside Andrew Breitbart's widow Susie Breitbart and the Mercer family. Alex Marlow serves as editor-in-chief, Wynton Hall as managing editor, and Peter Schweizer as senior editor-at-large.
