Xinhua News Agency stands as the official voice of the People's Republic of China, holding the status of a ministry-level institution under the State Council. It is the largest media organization in the country, with a history stretching back to November 1931 when it was founded as the Red China News Agency by the Chinese Communist Party in the Soviet Zone of Ruijin. Following the arduous Long March, the agency was rebranded as Xinhua in November 1935. Its global reach began to expand during World War II, initiating English broadcasts to international audiences in 1944. Upon the founding of the PRC in 1949, it formally assumed its role as the nation's state news agency, transitioning from a journal to a newspaper format in 1957.

Operating as both a publisher and a news conduit, Xinhua disseminates information across multiple languages, serving as a primary channel for communications from the Chinese government and the ruling CCP. Its Beijing headquarters are strategically positioned near the government's central hub at Zhongnanhai, and its director, Fu Hua, holds a seat on the CCP Central Committee.
