Switzerland"Ensuring Boxing's Olympic Future"
About
World Boxing stepped onto the global sports stage on April 13, 2023, establishing itself as the new international governing body for amateur, Olympic-style boxing. This organization was born from the collective will of 180 member federations, united by a single, pressing objective: to secure boxing's continued presence in the Summer Olympic Games. Its inception was a direct response to the severe governance and integrity crises that led the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend and ultimately expel the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The driving force behind World Boxing was the Common Cause Alliance, a coalition of IBA members who had been advocating for greater transparency and fundamental reforms. They sought to address concerns over financial dealings and leadership issues within the IBA, particularly those linked to Umar Kremlev. By forming World Boxing, these federations aimed to create a new framework built on accountability and fair play, thereby safeguarding boxing's Olympic dream. This commitment bore fruit when the IOC granted World Boxing provisional recognition in February 2025, after the new body met critical benchmarks. Just a month later, boxing's reinstatement for the Olympic program was formally approved, with World Boxing set to oversee the sport starting with the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
