About
Vogue Australia has been part of the country's magazine landscape since 1959, when it launched as the Australian edition of Vogue. That made it the third Vogue outpost in the southern hemisphere, following New Zealand in 1957 and South Africa and Rhodesia in 1958. The magazine covers ready-to-wear and haute couture fashion, beauty, popular culture, lifestyle, and weddings, and it publishes monthly from offices in the Surry Hills neighborhood of Sydney. Condé Nast Asia Pacific handled the title for years before a licensing arrangement with News Corp Australia took effect in 2006. Christine Centenera became editor-in-chief in 2023, stepping into a role previously held by Sheila Scotter, Marion Hume, and Kirstie Clements, among others. Each editor left a distinct mark on the magazine's direction, from Scotter's early stewardship to Clements' long tenure. What sets Vogue Australia apart is its dual identity: it carries the global Vogue name and visual language while covering a local fashion scene with its own designers, models, and cultural moments. The magazine has adapted to a shrinking print market by building out digital and social channels, but the monthly issue remains its centerpiece, with cover stars drawn from Australian talent and international celebrities alike.
