    About

V Live, stylized as VLIVE and sometimes called V App, was a South Korean live video streaming platform launched by Naver Corporation in late August 2015. It gave K-pop idols, actors, and other celebrities a direct channel to broadcast real-time videos to fans worldwide, covering everything from casual live chats and performances to reality shows and award ceremonies. The service ran on web browsers for Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus dedicated apps for iOS and Android. After Naver transferred operations to Weverse Company on March 2, 2022, the platform was officially shut down and fully merged into Weverse on December 31, 2022.

What set V Live apart was its focus on intimacy and global reach. A volunteer fan translator community created subtitles in multiple languages, making content accessible far beyond Korea. Translators earned ranks based on the lines they translated, and contests offered rewards like V coins and video calls with idols. Some videos carried as many as 17 subtitle options, turning the platform into a true bridge for international fandoms.

V Live also pushed into cross-cultural programming. It partnered with RBW Entertainment Vietnam to produce Vietnamese-based shows, and launched V Heartbeat, a series of mini-concerts designed to blend K-pop with V-pop. The opening show featured WINNER performing in Vietnam, signaling the platform's ambition to grow beyond its home market.

Is V Live still in business?
No. V Live was officially shut down on December 31, 2022, and its features and content were fully merged into Weverse. The official vlive.tv website is no longer active.
V Live vs Weverse: What's the difference?
V Live was a general Korean celebrity live-streaming platform launched by Naver in 2015, while Weverse is a fan-community app launched by HYBE in 2019 with tighter integration with HYBE artists like BTS. Weverse ultimately absorbed V Live, which shut down at the end of 2022.
Is V Live free to use?
V Live was free to download and watch most live broadcasts, but it used a virtual currency called V Coins for premium content, including paid live streams, replays, and exclusive merchandise. Some special events required payment.
