Launched in 2024, UFC Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu serves as a dedicated subsidiary of TKO Group Holdings designed to showcase the technical artistry of ground fighting outside the context of full MMA rules. The brand officially debuted with UFC BJJ: Road to the Title, an eight-episode reality series that aired on UFC Fight Pass and YouTube. This initial rollout featured elite lightweight and welterweight athletes coached by Mikey Musumeci and Rerisson Gabriel, blending documentary-style storytelling with high-stakes competition.

The organization has since pivoted its primary operational focus toward live event touring rather than just digital production. Following the digital launch, UFC BJJ announced the "UFC BJJ Opens" series in August 2026, with the first event scheduled for August 22 in Las Vegas. This marks the beginning of four planned events for the year, including a major competition at the Phoenix Convention Center in September. All live events broadcast free of charge via the official UFC BJJ YouTube channel, reinforcing a strategy centered on accessibility and mass-market engagement.

Distinguishing itself from traditional bodies like the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) or the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC), UFC BJJ applies the production value and narrative structure typical of professional combat sports to pure grappling. Competitors face off on a fight card format complete with referees, judges, and championship belts within a controlled environment. While IBJJF focuses on gi-based circuits and ADCC emphasizes no-gi world championships, this promotion holds a unique position by leveraging the massive infrastructure of the UFC ecosystem to create a distinct entertainment product.
