Six Flags

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation is the largest regional amusement park operator in North America, formed on July 1, 2024, through a merger between Cedar Fair and the original Six Flags. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, with administrative offices in Sandusky, Ohio, the company operates 34 properties across North America: 20 amusement parks, 14 water parks, and nine on-site resorts. It also manages two parks in Saudi Arabia. In 2024, Six Flags hosted 50.3 million guests, making it the fifth-largest amusement park operator worldwide by attendance. The company holds exclusive theme park rights to Warner Bros. intellectual properties, including Looney Tunes and DC Comics, while Peanuts characters appear at select parks. Six Flags trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker "FUN."

The merger combined two historic competitors. Cedar Fair owned parks such as Cedar Point in Ohio, Knott's Berry Farm in California, and Canada's Wonderland in Ontario. The legacy Six Flags chain included Six Flags Magic Mountain near Los Angeles, Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, the original park that opened in 1961. The new company kept the Six Flags name, with Cedar Fair shareholders holding 51% and former Six Flags shareholders holding 49%. Richard Zimmerman, previously Cedar Fair's CEO, leads the combined entity.

Six Flags parks are known for roller coasters and thrill rides, family areas, water parks, and seasonal events such as Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park. The company generates revenue from admissions, season passes, food and beverage, merchandise, games, and resort stays. Its main competitors in the broader amusement market include Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld, but among regional chains the merger removed its largest direct rival. [edit]
