Serenity Forge
United StatesAbout
Serenity Forge started in 2014 when Zhenghua "Z" Yang, then a student at the University of Colorado Boulder, began releasing mobile and small desktop games alone. The studio incorporated in Colorado and grew through Kickstarter campaigns and publishing deals, reaching over 40 employees by 2025. Yang's personal story of overcoming adversity often informs the studio's mission to create emotionally resonant games.
The company develops and publishes original IPs like Hazel Sky (2021), a narrative adventure about a young engineer in a floating city, and Hindsight (2022), a reflective game about memory and loss co-published with Annapurna Interactive. It also handled the Nintendo Switch port of Hazelight's It Takes Two and co-published The Last Campfire with Hello Games. Beyond development, Serenity Forge offers contract porting and QA services, recently bringing Stray to macOS and Hollow Knight to additional platforms.
Headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, with a small satellite office in Denver, the studio operates remote-friendly with employees across the US and a few international contractors. Their brand identity centers on emotional storytelling, accessibility, and artistic integrity, using a soft pastel palette and hand-drawn logos. Marketing is primarily digital through Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Steam Next Fest, plus a presence at PAX and GDC. The studio has faced no major controversies as of 2025, with minor criticism limited to technical performance on some Switch ports.
