SanDisk
United States"Flash storage for a data-driven world"
About
In February 2025, SanDisk reemerged as an independent public company after nearly a decade under Western Digital's umbrella. The Milpitas-based giant, founded as SunDisk in 1988 by Eli Harari, Sanjay Mehrotra, and Jack Yuan, helped invent the flash memory market. It introduced the CompactFlash format, shipped the first 1GB memory card, and built a brand synonymous with reliable storage for photographers, gamers, and enterprises.
Today SanDisk focuses on NAND flash from consumer SD cards to enterprise SSDs. Its BiCS8 technology stacks over 200 layers of memory cells, boosting density and cutting power use. The company is betting big on AI, launching the Ultra-AI 128TB Drive and investing in CXL-enabled memory for data centers. Under CEO David Goeckeler, the strategy is Value over Volume, targeting high-margin AI workloads rather than low-end commodity goods.
SanDisk holds more than 5,000 patents and operates joint-venture fabs in Japan with Kioxia. For fiscal 2025 it reported $7.355 billion in revenue. By 2026 its stock had surged 574%, making it the 38th-largest US company by market cap. The brand also markets professional-grade gear under SanDisk Professional, and continues to sell its classic memory cards, USB drives, and SSDs under the familiar red-and-white logo.
