Rosneft
Russia"Russia's largest oil and gas producer"
About
The company emerged from the chaotic privatization of the Soviet era, officially forming in 1993 before its formal incorporation in 1995. The Government of Russia established the entity to consolidate state assets in the energy sector, creating a central pillar for national hydrocarbon management. Under the steady hand of CEO Igor Sechin since December 2012, Rosneft has grown through aggressive state-backed deals, most notably absorbing the assets of the defunct Yukos oil company and purchasing a 68% stake in TNK-BP in 2013.
Today the corporation operates across the entire fossil fuel value chain, handling exploration, extraction, refining, and global distribution from its base on Sofiyskaya Embankment in Moscow. As a subsidiary of Rosneftegaz, it remains the primary vehicle for Russian state control over these resources. By late 2025, the firm reported hydrocarbon production reaching 246.6 million tonnes, cementing its position as the dominant force in the Russian Federation's energy landscape.
