About
Rideback started life as Lin Pictures on December 12, 2007, when Dan Lin left his post as Senior VP of Production at Warner Bros. to launch his own banner. The company rebranded as Rideback in 2018, taking its name from an old cowboy term for circling back to pick up a fallen rider. That ethos of support and community became the core of the company's identity, extending beyond film sets into the physical space of Rideback Ranch, a creative campus in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles.
Under Lin's leadership, the company has stacked up an enviable track record of blockbuster franchises. The LEGO Movie, Stephen King's It, Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films, and Disney's live-action Aladdin all carry the Rideback stamp. Together, the company's films have pulled in roughly $6 billion at the worldwide box office. Rideback also moved into television with series like Lethal Weapon for Fox and Walker for The CW, and produced the Oscar-nominated Netflix film The Two Popes.
In 2021, Rideback signed a first-look film deal with Universal Pictures, cementing its relationship with a major studio. The company also launched Rideback Rise, a year-long accelerator for mid-career film and TV creators of color, aimed at marrying commercial success with diverse storytelling. Rideback Ranch, meanwhile, houses partner companies including Animal Logic and Warner Animation Group, functioning as a collaborative hub rather than a traditional studio lot.
