    About

The Dodge brothers, John and Horace, founded the Dodge Brothers Company in Detroit in 1900, initially supplying parts to other automakers before building their own vehicles. The Ram nameplate first appeared on a Dodge pickup in 1981, borrowing the ram hood ornament that had adorned Dodges since the 1930s. During the 2009 bankruptcy of Chrysler, the newly formed Chrysler Group LLC under CEO Sergio Marchionne spun off Ram as a separate division in June 2009, officially launching as a stand-alone brand in 2010. Marchionne believed the split would let Ram compete more effectively against Ford and Chevrolet without being tied to Dodge's performance-car image.

Ram's lineup includes the light-duty Ram 1500, the heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 series, the 3500/4500/5500 chassis cabs, and the ProMaster commercial van. The Ram 1500 is built at the Sterling Heights Assembly plant in Michigan. In 2023, Ram joined the Stellantis Pro One global commercial vehicles division. The brand has consistently ranked high in initial quality studies: it placed first in the J.D. Power 2021 Initial Quality Study, the only truck-exclusive brand ever to do so, and repeated as the top brand in the 2024 study.

Under CEO Tim Kuniskis, who returned in 2025, Ram launched the "Nothing Stops Ram" campaign and re-entered NASCAR truck racing. Kuniskis has stated the brand aims for a full-size truck market share between 20% and 29.9%, up from roughly 17% in 2024. A midsize pickup is expected in 2027, while the rollout of fully electric pickups has been delayed amid weaker-than-expected demand.
