About
Porsche, officially Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, is a German luxury and sports car manufacturer headquartered in Stuttgart's Zuffenhausen district. The company was founded on April 25, 1931, by Ferdinand Porsche, his son-in-law Anton Piëch, and Adolf Rosenberger. Initially operating as an engineering and design consultancy with just 12 employees, the firm's most famous early project was the Volkswagen Beetle, commissioned by the German government in 1934. Ferdinand Porsche's ties to the Nazi regime led to his arrest for war crimes after World War II, while his son Ferry Porsche, an SS volunteer, developed the first car to bear the family name: the Porsche 356, launched in 1948.
The Porsche 911, introduced in September 1964, became the brand's defining model. Originally slated as the 901, a naming dispute with Peugeot forced the change to 911. Seven generations later, the 911 remains in production at the Zuffenhausen factory, alongside the mid-engine 718 Boxster and Cayman, the Panamera sedan, the Macan and Cayenne SUVs, and the all-electric Taycan. In fiscal year 2025, Porsche reported revenue of €36.272 billion and produced 279,449 vehicles. The company is publicly traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange as a DAX component, with the Porsche and Piëch families retaining control through Porsche SE.
