The Outdoor Life Network launched on July 31, 1995, carving out a niche with fishing and hunting shows before evolving into Versus in 2006. Comcast's acquisition of NBCUniversal transformed the channel into a major sports hub that carried the Tour de France and NHL games alongside other premier events. For nearly two decades it stood as a primary destination for live action, holding a significant market position alongside ESPN and Fox Sports.

That first chapter ended when the network ceased operations on December 31, 2021. Programming rights shifted to Peacock and USA Network during a four-year hiatus while the industry debated the future of linear television. Fans and analysts criticized the shutdown as part of a broader consolidation toward streaming-only models that alienated traditional cable subscribers.

NBCUniversal officially revived the brand on November 17, 2025, bringing the channel back to linear broadcasting. The new iteration operates alongside Peacock in a hybrid model designed to serve both streaming users and those who prefer cable boxes. Recent schedules show a heavy focus on basketball and baseball with 100 NBA regular-season games and MLB Sunday Night Baseball hitting the airwaves. [edit]
