    About

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, often still called MDPD or Metro-Dade, is the primary law enforcement agency for Miami-Dade County, Florida. It's a massive operation, standing as the largest sheriff's office in the entire southeastern U.S. Beyond just unincorporated areas, they also provide police services under contract to several of the county's independent cities. This agency handles a broad range of duties, including municipal policing, security for the county courthouses, and specialized law enforcement at busy hubs like the Port of Miami and Miami International Airport. What sets the MDSO apart is its focus. Unlike many sheriff's departments that also run jails, that task falls to the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department. The MDSO itself is a sophisticated organization, boasting several specialized bureaus and holding international accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, along with state-level accreditation. Based in Doral, Florida, their distinctive green and white vehicles and taupe/brown uniforms are a familiar sight across the county.
