On March 3, 1958, Koo In-hwoi launched Lucky Goldstar Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Seoul with a single goal: to build radios for the post-war market. The company adopted its current name by merging two distinct brand identities, "Lucky" for cosmetics and household goods and "Goldstar" for electronics. Over six decades, this mid-century radio producer evolved into a global powerhouse managing four core divisions: Home Appliance Solution, Media Entertainment Solution, Vehicle Solution, and Eco Solution.

A defining strategic shift occurred in 1995 when LG acquired Zenith Electronics, securing critical intellectual property in television technology and access to the American market. This move helped solidify LG's position as the second-largest TV manufacturer globally, trailing only Samsung Electronics. The firm pioneered OLED display technology and developed the webOS smart TV platform, while also integrating AI-driven capabilities through its ThinQ ecosystem.

As of August 2026, the company continues to expand its manufacturing footprint to serve emerging markets. LG Electronics officially began operations at a new refrigerator plant in Brazil with an annual capacity of 600,000 units.
