Laneige
South Korea"Water science for glowing skin"
About
Laneige launched in September 1994 under Amorepacific, one of Asia's largest beauty conglomerates. The name comes from the French phrase "la neige," meaning "snow." Its debut collection, UV Green, was marketed under the campaign "Laneige Protects Women," emphasizing skin immunity. By 1996, just two years after launch, the brand hit 100 billion KRW in sales.
The brand built its reputation on Advanced Water Science technology, with the Water Sleeping Mask pioneering the overnight mask category. That product, along with the Lip Sleeping Mask which sells one unit every two seconds worldwide in 2025, became cult favorites. Laneige's portfolio spans hydration-focused skincare like the Water Bank line, hybrid makeup such as the BB Cushion foundation and Neo Blurring Powder, and color cosmetics like two-tone lipsticks.
Nearly 90% of Laneige's revenue now comes from overseas markets. In the Americas, average annual sales growth exceeded 56% between July 2022 and June 2024. The brand was the #1 holiday brand at Sephora for two consecutive years (2023-2024) and ranked #1 in Beauty & Personal Care during Amazon Prime Day 2022. In fiscal 2025, Laneige recorded sales of 730 billion KRW, with projections of 800 billion KRW for 2026.
