KNDS N.V. is a pan-European defense holding company created on October 2, 2015, through the merger of Germany's Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and France's Nexter Systems. Headquartered in Amsterdam at Gustav Mahlerlaan 1082, the company operates as a binational enterprise with roughly 8,000 employees split between its two main subsidiaries, KNDS Deutschland and KNDS France. The merger was designed to consolidate European military industrial capabilities, improving interoperability and competitiveness against global rivals like BAE Systems, Rheinmetall, and General Dynamics Land Systems.

KNDS produces some of the most widely used armored vehicles and artillery systems in NATO, including the Leopard 2 main battle tank, the Boxer wheeled infantry fighting vehicle, and the CAESAR self-propelled howitzer. The company's strategy focuses on delivering complete mission solutions, integrating tanks, artillery, unmanned systems, and command-and-control networks into cohesive packages for modern land warfare. Under the leadership of CEO Tom Enders, a former Airbus executive, KNDS has continued to expand its portfolio and secure major contracts, such as the August 2026 order for 69 additional Boxer RCT30 vehicles for Germany and the Netherlands.

In August, KNDS Deutschland Maintenance signed a framework agreement with Finnish firm Patria to assemble and integrate Patria 6x6 armored personnel carriers in Germany, deepening cross-border industrial partnerships. However, the company also faces challenges, including a significant explosion at its ammunition plant in Colleferro, Italy, on August 13, 2026, which raised safety concerns but resulted in no reported injuries.
