J.C.Staff

J.C.Staff Co., Ltd. was established on January 18, 1986, by Tomoyuki Miyata, a former producer at Tatsunoko Production. The name stands for Japan Creative Staff. Miyata founded the studio with the stated aim of improving working conditions in the anime industry, a goal born from his own grueling experiences. The studio's first production was the three-episode OVA Sengoku Kidan Yōtōden in 1987. Over the following decades, J.C.Staff grew into one of the most prolific animation studios in Japan, producing a vast catalog of television series, films, and OVAs.

The studio is best known for adapting popular manga and light novels. Notable titles include Revolutionary Girl Utena, Toradora!, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, A Certain Scientific Railgun, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., and One-Punch Man Season 2. J.C.Staff has handled a wide range of genres, from romance and comedy to action and fantasy, building a reputation as a reliable and versatile production house. The studio employs 226 people, 214 of whom are full-time staff, and operates internal departments for CG, photography, background art, finishing, and animation.

Founder Miyata's career has been marked by extreme stress. In a 2024 interview, he disclosed that the pressure of his work led to the removal of two-thirds of his stomach, a stark illustration of the industry's harsh conditions. The studio has faced criticism for perceived declines in animation quality in some recent high-profile productions, often attributed to its practice of taking on a large number of projects simultaneously. Despite these challenges, J.C.Staff continues to operate from its headquarters in Musashino, Tokyo, and remains a major player in the anime industry. [edit]
