At its height in 2011, the organization employed over 350,000 people worldwide, serving governments, small businesses, and massive enterprises alike. The corporate structure shifted dramatically in October 2015 when the entity split into two independent public companies: HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). This division allowed each side to pursue distinct strategies without the baggage of the other's market demands.

HP Inc. now leads the consumer and commercial printing and PC hardware space with lines like Spectre, Omen, and Pavilion. Meanwhile, HPE focuses on enterprise infrastructure, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence networking.
