    About

Frontier Airlines began operations on July 5, 1994, founded by United Airlines pilot Frederick W. "Rick" Brown, his wife Janice Brown, and Bob Schulman, who had previously worked at the original Frontier Airlines that operated from 1950 to 1986. The airline initially proposed a charter service called AeroDenver Travel Services to fill demand at Denver's Stapleton International Airport after Continental Airlines reduced flights there. M. C. "Hank" Lund, former CEO of the original Frontier, was brought in as CEO, with Sam Addoms as executive vice president and treasurer.

Frontier operates as an ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC), allowing passengers to customize their travel by paying only for the services they choose. The airline's fleet consists entirely of Airbus A320-family aircraft, with approximately 85 percent being next-generation "neo" models, making it the operator of the largest A320neo fleet in the Americas. The entire fleet is financed through operating leases, with an average age of about five years. Frontier serves 123 destinations across the United States, Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America, with its largest base in Denver.

The airline is known for its colorful wildlife-themed aircraft tails featuring animals such as wolves, bears, dolphins, and eagles, giving it a distinctive and family-friendly visual identity. Frontier's frequent-flyer program is called Frontier Miles. After Spirit Airlines' shutdown in May 2026, Frontier became the largest surviving pure ULCC in the United States.
