Firefly Aerospace

Firefly Aerospace is an American aerospace manufacturer headquartered in Cedar Park, Texas, specializing in small- and medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers, and defense-related space systems. The company's stated mission is to reliably and repeatedly launch, land, and operate space systems from Earth to the Moon and beyond. It emerged from the ashes of Firefly Space Systems, whose assets were acquired by EOS Launcher in March 2017 and rebranded as Firefly Aerospace. Since then, it has become a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq under the ticker FLY, positioning itself as a full-spectrum space and defense technology provider.

Firefly's flagship product is the Alpha rocket, a small-lift launch vehicle capable of carrying up to 1,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit. The inaugural flight in September 2021 ended in an explosion shortly after liftoff, but a second attempt in October 2022 reached orbit and deployed three payloads. The company also developed the Blue Ghost lunar lander under a NASA partnership, which has demonstrated lunar capabilities by capturing images of the Moon during its orbital phase. Firefly has expanded into defense and national security markets, and in June 2026, it acquired Space-ng to advance autonomous space operations. The company received a $13 million NASA JPL subcontract to build an aeroshell for the SkyFall Mars mission, highlighting its role in planetary exploration.

Firefly employs approximately 1,507 people worldwide as of March 2026, making it the 8th-largest aerospace and defense company by headcount in its category. In 2026, it accelerated spacecraft production by expanding its campus and innovation lab in Central Texas, adding two new buildings in Cedar Park.
