    About

ASUS was founded on April 2, 1989 in Taipei, Taiwan by four former Acer engineers: T.H. Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh, and M.T. Liao. The name derives from Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology, symbolizing wisdom and knowledge. In Chinese, the company name means eminence or excellence. The company's early breakthrough came when it created a motherboard prototype for Intel's 486 processor without having access to the actual processor. When ASUS approached Intel to request a processor for testing, Intel itself was having problems with its own 486 motherboard. ASUS solved Intel's problem, and Intel's motherboard turned out to be based on ASUS's design. This established ASUS as a credible engineering partner and helped launch its motherboard business.

ASUS produces a comprehensive range of products including desktop and laptop computers, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, projectors, networking equipment, optical storage, peripherals, wearables, servers, workstations, and smartphones. Major product lines include ROG (Republic of Gamers) for gaming hardware, TUF Gaming for durability-focused products, ZenBook for premium ultrabooks, VivoBook for mainstream laptops, ExpertBook for enterprise products, ProArt for professional creative workstations, and ASUS AiO all-in-one computers. The company is consistently ranked among Fortune's World's Most Admired Companies, with 11 inclusions on this list as of 2025.

ASUS is publicly traded on the Taiwan Stock Exchange under ticker TWSE: 2357. For the first nine months of 2025, ASUS Group consolidated revenue reached NT$535,982 million (approximately $16.6 billion USD), representing a 24% year-over-year increase. Brand monthly revenue for the same period was NT$499,113 million, up 23% year-over-year. The company employs more than ten thousand people globally, including approximately 5,000 in-house R&D experts, with manufacturing facilities in Taiwan, China, Mexico, and the Czech Republic, and offices in over 50 countries.
