Founded on April 15, 1926, American Airlines stands as one of the world's largest carriers, measured by passengers carried and the sheer volume of daily flights. It transports over 200 million people annually, operating nearly 6,800 flights each day to approximately 350 destinations spread across 48 countries. The airline's regional affiliate, American Eagle, plays a key role in extending its network into smaller markets. American Airlines is also a founding member of the Oneworld alliance, a significant global partnership of airlines.

The airline's extensive network is structured around ten major hubs. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport serves as its primary base and the largest operational center. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the second-largest hub, functioning as a vital gateway for travel to the Southeast U.S. and transatlantic routes.
