    About

Founded on August 12, 1904, Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas emerged from the merger of a rowing club and a football team in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood that shares its name. This union created Brazil's oldest multi-sport organization, though the public knows it best for its football squad playing at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos since 2007.

The club's history is marked by specific triumphs rather than vague acclaim. They secured their first national title in 1968 with an unbeaten season featuring stars like Jairzinho and Carlos Alberto. After adding titles in 1995 and 2024, they also lifted the Copa Libertadores in 2024 and the Copa CONMEBOL in 1993. Their dominance includes a record 24–0 victory over Mangueira in 1909 and twenty-one Campeonato Carioca state championships.

    History

The club began as two separate entities: the Botafogo Rowing Club and the Botafogo Football Club. Their merger in 1904 established a unique identity that blends water sports excellence with fierce football passion. Early records show the team setting a standard for victory margins with a 24–0 win against Mangueira in 1909.

Modern eras brought renewed glory. The 1968 squad went undefeated to claim the national championship, a feat still celebrated today. Decades later, the 2024 campaign delivered both the Brasileirão and the Copa Libertadores. Recent matches in 2026 saw the team competing against international sides like Racing Avellaneda and Cienciano while maintaining a strong position in the domestic league table.
