Boston Legal
United States"High-stakes law meets high-spirited chaos in this Boston courtroom."
Overview
David E. Kelley returned to the courtroom with Boston Legal, a sharp legal dramedy that aired on ABC from 2004 to 2008. The series spun off from his earlier hit The Practice and quickly found its own rhythm by focusing on two brilliant but deeply flawed attorneys at the fictional firm Crane, Poole & Schmidt. James Spader played the slick, cigar-chomping Alan Shore, while William Shatner brought chaotic energy to the role of Denny Crane. Together they led a team of eccentric colleagues including Candice Bergen as the no-nonsense Shirley Schmidt and John Larroquette as the recovering alcoholic Carl Sacker. Running for six seasons and 113 episodes, the show blended high-stakes civil litigation with absurd humor and genuine emotional moments. It tackled controversial social issues through the lens of witty dialogue and outrageous courtroom antics. Critics and audiences responded well to the chemistry between Spader and Shatner, earning the series a solid rating of nearly 8 out of 10. The show ended in December 2008 after leaving behind a legacy of memorable characters and unapologetic storytelling.
