About This Album
Craig David stepped into the spotlight with Born to Do It, a debut that fused UK garage rhythms with smooth contemporary R&B. Released in August 2000 through Wildstar Records, the project emerged after David caught the attention of label executives while singing for Artful Dodger. He started recording tracks in 1999 alongside Mark Hill, crafting a sound built on electro beats, acoustic guitars, and heavy basslines. The lyrics explore romance, relationship hurdles, and late-night club scenes without losing their playful edge.
Critics praised the blend of styles immediately, and MTV later named it one of the greatest albums ever made. The record topped the UK Albums Chart upon release, setting a record for the fastest-selling debut by a British male solo artist. It eventually earned six-times platinum certification in the UK and moved over 7.5 million copies globally. Four singles drove its success, including the chart-topping hits "Fill Me In" and "7 Days", along with strong follow-ups like "Walking Away" and "Rendezvous".
