Nona Ewin lives with her mother Lancia in a town where the Bureau of Magic Surveillance watches everyone. When Nona fixes her friend Lovi's glasses with a flicker of magic, the Bureau comes knocking. Lovi cracks under pressure and gives Nona up. That night, Lovi and her parents are killed. Lancia, who had hidden her own powers for years, burns the town to the ground and flees with Nona. Mother and daughter get separated in the chaos.

Nona wakes up in a Bureau prison. She meets Miramira, another captive who has been there longer. The two strike up an uneasy alliance. Miramira wants to find her older brother. Nona wants to find her mother. Together they plan an escape from the facility, relying on Nona's raw magic and Miramira's knowledge of the base's layout.

The series began as a one-shot titled Meririrarariri published on Shōnen Jump+ in July 2025. Full serialization kicked off on October 23, 2025. Three tankōbon volumes are out in Japan, with a third due July 3, 2026. Viz Media licensed the English release, with the first volume expected in Q2 2027. The first volume got an emergency reprint after strong sales, and manga artist Kazue Kato gave it a recommendation. Some Japanese readers had mixed reactions to chapters 5 and 6, sparking Reddit discussions about whether the series can sustain its momentum.
