Hobin Yoo is a high school nobody, the kind of kid other students shove into lockers for fun. Then he stumbles onto a NewTube channel called Newtuber's Self-Defense, which teaches a scrappy, no-rules fighting style. Desperate, Hobin starts training. He films his first real fight, uploads it, and the video explodes. Suddenly he is not just fighting bullies, he is performing for an audience that craves bloodier and bloodier content.

The webtoon, written by Taejun Pak and drawn by Kim Junghyun, launched on Naver Webtoon in the late 2010s and ran for 220 chapters. Its English translation arrived on WEBTOON and later in print from Seven Seas Entertainment. The premise, link physical combat to internet virality, gave the series a sharp contemporary edge. Readers watched Hobin climb from victim to viral sensation, but the story never let him forget the cost: the moral compromises, the enemies he made, the line between self-defense and exploitation that blurred with every new subscriber.

Pak and Junghyun built a world where fame and fighting feed each other. Hobin's crew, friends like the stoic Taehoon and the hot-headed Bomi, each brought their own baggage and fighting styles. The action sequences, drawn with kinetic clarity, earned the series a 2021 Eisner Award nomination for Best U.S. Edition of International Material, Asia. By the time the final chapter dropped, Viral Hit had spawned a live-action Korean drama on tvN, an anime by LIDENFILMS, and a mobile game. It also seeded a shared universe: the spin-off prequel How to Fight: The Prequel digs into the backstory of the fan-favorite antagonist Logan.[edit]
