Cross Academy is no ordinary school. By day, human students attend classes, unaware that their Night Class counterparts are vampires. The school's headmaster, Kaien Cross, designed this arrangement hoping to foster peaceful coexistence. His adopted daughter, Yuki Cross, serves as a guardian, protecting the secret and mediating between the two groups. But her life grows complicated when her childhood friend Zero Kiryuu, a vampire hunter who despises the undead, begins transforming into one himself. Zero's internal conflict and Yuki's mysterious past pull her into a tangled web of love, loyalty, and dangerous secrets.

Written by Matsuri Hino, Vampire Knight ran in Hakusensha's shōjo magazine LaLa from November 24, 2004 to May 24, 2013. Its chapters were collected into 19 tankōbon volumes. Viz Media released the English adaptation in North America, serializing it in Shojo Beat from 2006 to 2009 before publishing the complete series. The story blends romance, supernatural drama, and gothic atmosphere, appealing to fans of dark fantasy and angsty love triangles. With over 5 million copies in circulation worldwide, it remains a standout in the shōjo vampire genre.

The series expanded beyond manga. Two drama CDs were produced, and Studio Deen adapted it into a 26-episode anime spanning two seasons. The first season aired on TV Tokyo from April to July 2008, the second from October to December that same year. Viz Media also licensed the anime for North American release. Despite mixed critical reception, the show's lush visuals and brooding characters earned a devoted fanbase. A spin-off manga, Vampire Knight: Memories, later continued the story, showing the enduring appeal of Hino's dark romantic world. [edit]
