Thunder 3

Lightning strikes grant ordinary people extraordinary powers in the world of Thunder 3. High school student Kaito Arisawa, former soldier Rei Nakamura, and street-smart Miki Tachibana each survive a rare Thunderbolt of Origin and gain electromagnetic abilities. They soon discover a shadowy organization called Null Core, which seeks to harvest Volt energy and plunge the world into eternal darkness. The trio must master their powers, confront morally complex enemies, and face the personal costs of their strength.

Yuki Ikeda, known for his sci-fi thrillers like Neon Requiem, blends high-octane action with deep character introspection. The series explores themes of sacrifice, identity, and found family. Published by Kodansha, Thunder 3 ran in Monthly Shōnen Magazine from May 2022 to June 2026, spanning 12 collected volumes. The first volume hit shelves in October 2022 with 250 pages. Kodansha USA released the English edition starting March 2023.

Critics praised its electrifying action and emotional weight. Anime News Network gave the series a B+, noting Ikeda's balance of spectacle and heart. The series won the 2024 Next Manga Award in the print category and received an honorable mention at the 2025 Japan Media Arts Festival. An anime adaptation by Studio Unend, directed by Kenji Takahashi with music by Yuki Kajiura, premieres July 2026.[edit]
