The Seven Deadly Sins
Nakaba Suzuki
Overview
Nakaba Suzuki crafted a high-fantasy adventure that blends medieval European aesthetics with Japanese manga storytelling. Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 2012 to 2020, the series spans 41 volumes and introduces readers to Meliodas and his team of outcasts known as the Seven Deadly Sins. These knights, once accused of crimes they did not commit, roam a kingdom plagued by demonic threats while uncovering secrets about their own pasts. The narrative balances action-packed battles with character-driven drama, establishing a world where magic and honor collide. The franchise expanded rapidly beyond print, attracting millions of fans globally. A-1 Pictures produced the initial three anime seasons between 2014 and 2018, followed by two films titled Prisoners of the Sky and Cursed by Light. Studio Deen later took over production for additional seasons, while Netflix released the concluding film Grudge of Edinburgh across two parts in 2022 and 2023. Kodansha USA handled the English release of the manga, which sold over 55 million copies worldwide before winning the 39th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2015. Suzuki launched a sequel series called Four Knights of the Apocalypse in 2021.
