Tenkaichi: The Greatest Warrior Under the Rising Sun

Japan stands unified a decade after Oda Nobunaga seized total control, yet the aging warlord faces a critical succession crisis. With his life waning, Nobunaga organizes a brutal tournament to crown a single successor who will inherit the title of Shogun. Sixteen warriors representing diverse martial traditions enter the arena, knowing that only one can survive the death match format.

The competition pits legendary historical figures like Miyamoto Musashi and Yagyū Munenori against fictionalized combatants wielding exaggerated abilities. Fighters utilize iaijutsu techniques, generate wind-based attacks, and launch aerial maneuvers using makeshift wings. The narrative weaves together the clash of ideologies with visceral choreography that defies standard physics while exploring the weight of history on individual willpower.

Kodansha launched the series in January 2021 within Young Magazine the 3rd. When that publication ceased operations, the story moved to Monthly Young Magazine in May 2021 under the Young Magazine KC imprint. An anime adaptation by Fugaku Animation is scheduled to premiere in April 2027 following an August 2026 trailer reveal. [edit]
