Soara and the House of Monsters

Hidenori Yamaji's Soara and the House of Monsters flips the fantasy script: instead of slaying beasts, its heroine builds them homes. Soara, a young human warrior, loses her purpose when the war between humans and monsters abruptly ends. Wandering aimlessly, she encounters a crew of dwarf architects who specialize in constructing houses for goblins, trolls, dragons, and even slimes. Intrigued, Soara joins them, channeling her combat-honed strength into hammering nails and carving beams. Along the way, she confronts her own deep-seated prejudices and discovers that monsters have their own cultures, needs, and desires, like a cozy cave with proper ventilation or a nest with the right humidity.

Serialized in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday S and on the Sunday Webry webcomic platform since November 2021, the series has released multiple collected volumes under the Sunday Webry Comics imprint. Seven Seas Entertainment brought the English edition to shelves in September 2023. The manga earned nominations for the Next Manga Award in both 2022 and 2023, with readers and critics praising Yamaji's intricate, whimsical artwork, especially the detailed cross-sections of monster dwellings, from a dragon's geothermal-heated lair to a slime's gel-lined chamber. An anime adaptation by Felix Film is scheduled for a 2027 premiere.[edit]
