RuriDragon

RuriDragon is a Japanese web manga series written and illustrated by Masaoki Shindō. The story follows Ruri Aoki, a first-year high school student in Tokyo who wakes up on her 16th birthday to find small dragon horns sprouting from her head. Her mother, Aoi, reveals that Ruri's biological father is a dragon, making her half-dragon. The series chronicles Ruri's everyday adventures as she learns to control emerging supernatural abilities—breathing fire, enhanced strength, and a dragon tail—while navigating school, friendships, and typical adolescent challenges. The tone is lighthearted and comedic, focusing on slice-of-life situations rather than high-stakes fantasy conflict.

The manga began as a one-shot in Shueisha's Jump Giga magazine in December 2020, then launched as a serial in Weekly Shōnen Jump on June 13, 2022. After an 18-month hiatus starting in August 2023, the series resumed serialization in April 2024 on Weekly Shōnen Jump's digital edition and the Shōnen Jump+ service. Five tankōbon volumes have been released as of March 2026. Viz Media licensed the series for English publication, with the first volume released in June 2024.

RuriDragon received widespread critical acclaim for its charming art style, relatable protagonist, and clever blend of supernatural elements with mundane school comedy. Critics praised its fresh take on the hidden fantasy trope, avoiding battle-heavy plots in favor of character-driven humor and heartwarming moments. The series won the Next Manga Award in the Print Manga category at the 10th Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō in 2024 and ranked #1 in the Manga We Want to See Animated poll by AnimeJapan in 2023. As of March 2026, the series has over 1.5 million copies in circulation in Japan. An anime television series adaptation produced by Kyoto Animation has been announced, though no release date or cast details have been confirmed.[edit]
