Reincarnated as a Sword

The series began as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in October 2015 before Micro Magazine printed the first volume under their GC Novels imprint on July 30, 2016. Yamaguchi wrote the text while artist Llo provided illustrations for the initial run. The narrative follows an unnamed salaryman who dies in a car accident and wakes up as a sentient magical sword in a fantasy world. He retains no name or identity at first but gains telekinetic abilities that allow him to move independently.

Teacher forms a partnership with Fran, a young cat-like beast girl he rescues from slavery. Together they hunt monsters and gather resources while navigating a world filled with magic and guilds. The story focuses on their unconventional father-daughter dynamic as the sword guides Fran's growth as both a warrior and a person. The setting features mechanics reminiscent of tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, including skill trees and leveling systems.

Seven Seas Entertainment holds the license for the North American release of the light novels and manga adaptations illustrated by Tomowo Maruyama and Hinako Inoue. An anime adaptation produced by C2C aired from October to December 2022 and brought the story to a wider international audience. Recent updates confirm that Season 2 of the anime is scheduled to premiere in the Fall of 2026 with an early streaming debut on September 30 via HIDIVE. [edit]
