    Overview

Yu Kamiya's light novel series No Game No Life launched under the MF Bunko J imprint on April 25, 2012. The story follows Sora and his younger stepsister Shiro, two reclusive gamers who form the undefeated online identity Blank. After beating the god of games Tet at chess, they are summoned to Disboard, a fantasy realm where all conflicts, from border disputes to personal quarrels, are resolved through games governed by the absolute Ten Pledges. The siblings aim to unite the weakest race, Imanity (humanity), conquer the other fifteen species, and challenge Tet himself.

Kamiya's wife Mashiro Hiiragi co-adapted the novels into a manga for Monthly Comic Alive in 2013. An anime by Madhouse, directed by Atsuko Ishizuka, aired from April to July 2014 on AT-X, with Crunchyroll handling international streaming. A film adaptation of the sixth volume, No Game No Life: Zero, premiered in July 2017, set 6,000 years before the main series and focusing on the human Riku and Ex-machina Shuvi during the great war. The franchise expanded with a spin-off manga, No Game No Life, Please!, and a second manga adaptation covering volumes two and three, which went on hiatus in early 2025.

North American localization was split: Seven Seas Entertainment handled the first manga, Sentai Filmworks the anime, and Yen Press the light novels and subsequent manga. The series gained traction in 2014, appearing in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! and ranking among Japan's top thirty best-selling light novel series. By May 2017, over three million copies were in print. English reviews of the anime were mixed initially, but those who watched the full season praised the strategic games, character chemistry, and vibrant animation, though the fan service involving Shiro drew criticism. The series has faced censorship: China banned distribution for perceived threats to communism, and Australia banned volumes 1, 2, and 9 for content offensive to reasonable adults.
