Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
Harutoshi Fukui
Overview
Harutoshi Fukui wrote the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn novels to bridge the timeline gap between the 1988 film Char's Counterattack and future Universal Century stories. The series originally ran in Kadokawa Shoten's Gundam Ace magazine from December 2007 through January 2009. Ten volumes covered the main narrative arc before an eleventh volume arrived in 2016 to resolve lingering plot threads.
The story takes place in Universal Century 0096, three years after Char Aznable died during the Axis shock incident. Banagher Links lives on Industrial 7, a neutral colony where he encounters Audrey Burne hiding on a ship. She hands him Laplace's Box, a container holding documents that could prove the Earth Federation was founded illegally. When Federation forces attack the colony to seize the item, Banagher boards the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, a prototype mobile suit capable of interfacing directly with his mind through psycho-frame technology.
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko handled character designs while Hajime Katoki designed the mechanical elements. The English translation first appeared through Tokyopop for volumes one through five before Yen Press took over to publish volumes six through eleven. This transition ensured international readers received the complete narrative ending.
