Overview
John Gardner returned to the world of James Bond with Icebreaker, his third novel in the series authorized after Fleming's death. Glidrose Publications held the copyright while Jonathan Cape released the book in the United Kingdom with cover art by Bill Botten. Putnam took over American distribution for this title, marking their first partnership on a Bond story and launching a long-running relationship with the franchise. The narrative spans Northern Europe, sending the agent to Finland where Gardner traveled personally to capture authentic details about the landscape and culture.
