Kenichi Yamada spent years chasing the hardest challenges in online gaming, only to find modern titles becoming too forgiving. He stumbled into a mysterious untitled game and selected the Hell Mode difficulty. That decision killed him and woke him up as Allen, a serf in a fantasy world where the rules are brutally stacked against him. Monsters are overpowered, resources are scarce, and the class system keeps him at the bottom. Allen does not rage-quit. He treats his new life like the ultimate playthrough, applying his obsessive min-maxing mindset to turn the world's broken balance into his greatest weapon.

Hamuo's story began as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in November 2019 before Earth Star Entertainment acquired it for print publication under their Earth Star Novel imprint in July 2020. The series expanded into a manga illustrated by Enji Tetta, which started serialization on Comic Earth Star in October 2020. An anime adaptation produced by Yokohama Animation Laboratory aired from January to March 2026, followed immediately by a second season that premiered on July 3, 2026.

The narrative stands apart by emphasizing strategy and systematic progression rather than luck or hidden cheat powers. Allen grinds, plans, and exploits game-like mechanics that the world's inhabitants take for granted. The title references "garbage balancing," referring to the deliberately unfair design of this new world.
