Fire Punch
Tatsuki Fujimoto
Overview
Set in a frozen post-apocalyptic world where civilization has collapsed under an eternal winter, the story follows Agni, a young man cursed with rapid regeneration who cannot feel pain or die. After his village is burned alive by a group known as the Fire Pagans, Agni remains eternally burning while he survives on the flesh of others. He embarks on a quest for revenge and meaning in a godless wasteland, driven by the memory of those he lost.
The narrative explores themes of suffering, religious fanaticism, and the cycle of violence through a grim atmosphere that lacks traditional shonen tropes like friendship or victory. Unlike Fujimoto's later hit Chainsaw Man, which blends horror with comedy, this series maintains an unrelenting bleakness. The plot centers on Agni's interactions with Luna, a girl with ice powers who can freeze fire, and her brother Tomita, whose relationship with Agni drives much of the emotional core of the story.
Tatsuki Fujimoto created the work as a follow-up to his debut Look Back, though it was serialized first. The manga ran exclusively on Shueisha's digital platform Shōnen Jump+ from April 2016 to January 2018. It consists of 83 chapters collected into eight tankōbon volumes. The English translation appeared in North America via Viz Media under their VIZ Signature imprint.
