Farming Life in Another World
Kinosuke Naito
Overview
Machio Hiraku, a 39-year-old salaryman, dies from a serious illness and is granted reincarnation by God. Instead of asking for power or wealth, he requests only good health and the ability to farm. Reborn in a fantasy world, he receives a magical Almighty Farming Tool and a plot of land deep in a forest. He begins clearing the land, planting crops, and raising livestock, enjoying a peaceful self-sufficient existence.
His quiet life is soon disrupted as his farm attracts a growing number of non-human residents: vampires, elves, beast-kin, and even dragons. They are drawn to the abundance and safety of his land. Over time, his small homestead evolves into a bustling multi-species village called Taiju Village, and eventually a self-governing nation. Despite the politics and diplomacy that arise, Machio maintains his simple farming lifestyle at the center of this expanding community.
The series is a defining work of the slow life isekai subgenre, emphasizing daily routines, community building, and found family over combat. It has been praised for its relaxing tone and detailed worldbuilding through agriculture, though criticized for its lack of central conflict and passive protagonist. The web novel began on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in December 2016, and the light novel adaptation by Enterbrain has reached 20 volumes as of 2025.
