Eragon

Set in the fictional continent of Alagaësia, the narrative begins with Eragon, a farm boy gathering herbs near the Spine. He finds a blue stone that hatches into Saphira, a dragon, marking him as a Dragon Rider. This event triggers an immediate pursuit by Ra'zac, agents of the tyrant King Galbatorix who seeks to reclaim all dragons. Eragon and Saphira flee into the wilderness where they meet Brom, an old storyteller who reveals himself as the last surviving member of the ancient Dragon Riders.

Brom agrees to guide the pair toward the Varden, a rebel group fighting to overthrow Galbatorix. Over the course of the story, he teaches Eragon the ways of magic and swordsmanship while the young rider learns to bond with his dragon. The plot focuses on their rapid maturation from naive youth to warriors and the political struggle to restore the alliance between humans, elves, dwarves, and Urgals against the Empire. [edit]
