    Overview

Blackmagic Design acquired da Vinci Systems in 2009 to launch a unified platform that replaced the fragmented workflows of traditional post-production. The software integrates editing, color correction, visual effects, and audio mixing into one application running on macOS, Windows, Linux, and iPadOS. Users navigate through distinct workspaces called pages to handle specific tasks without switching between different programs.

The Cut and Edit pages allow editors to assemble footage quickly, while the Fusion page handles complex visual effects and motion graphics. Colorists use the dedicated Color page for professional grading, and the Fairlight page manages audio mixing. Media management and final delivery happen through separate areas within the interface, keeping the workflow organized.

As of September 2026, the platform released version 21.1 with significant updates including AI Assistant integration and support for Model Context Protocol. A new Photo page enables image editing directly within the suite. The free version works with most 8-bit formats, while the Studio upgrade unlocks advanced neural engine tools and support for resolutions up to 32K.
