Date A Live

Kōshi Tachibana's Date A Live began in March 2011 as a light novel series with illustrations by Tsunako, published under Fujimi Shobo's Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. The story centers on Shido Itsuka, a high school student in a city repeatedly hit by spacequakes, disasters caused by the appearance of Spirits, powerful beings from another dimension. When Shido learns he can seal a Spirit's power by kissing her, he becomes the reluctant negotiator between humanity and these dangerous girls. The series ran for 22 volumes, ending in March 2020, and Yen Press handles the English release. Across those volumes, Tachibana mixes romantic comedy, harem tropes, and sci-fi action, building a cast of Spirits who each get their own arc. The formula stays light but finds room for emotional stakes as Shido's circle grows.[edit]
