Darwin's Game

High schooler Kaname Sudo clicks a link in a text from a classmate and is instantly pulled into Darwin's Game, a mobile app that turns into a real-life battle royale. Each player awakens a unique supernatural ability called a Sigil. Kaname's Sigil, Analysis, lets him instantly evaluate and predict the properties of any object or phenomenon, making him a brilliant strategist rather than a brawler. He teams up with Shuka Karino, a mysterious and powerful female player, and together they fight to survive against other players, powerful clans, and the game's shadowy administrators.

Written and illustrated by the duo FLIPFLOPs (Yūki Hiiro and Noritsuki), the series ran in Akita Shoten's Bessatsu Shōnen Champion from December 2012 to October 2023, spanning 30 volumes plus an epilogue. The English edition was originally released by Seven Seas Entertainment and later picked up by Titan Comics for omnibus volumes. A spin-off novel, Darwin's Game ~Flag Game~, published in December 2020, delves into the backstory of Shuka and Rein. A manga adaptation of that novel, drawn by Guuno, launches in the November 2026 issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Champion.

An 11-episode anime adaptation by studio Nexus aired in 2020, covering the first major arc. A live-action film directed by Fumihiko Sori is set to premiere in Japan on March 12, 2027. The series has over 4 million copies in circulation worldwide and has been translated into French, Spanish, German, and many other languages. At its core, Darwin's Game explores survival of the fittest, human nature under pressure, and the strategic use of powers. The battles emphasize clever application of Sigils over raw strength, and Kaname's growth from a reluctant player to a cunning leader drives the narrative. [edit]
