    Overview

Hana Ichise has spent her entire life in the shadow of her twin sister Hazuki, a celebrated prodigy in one of the five noble clans that secretly protect modern Japan with barrier-weaving magic. To escape the constant comparisons, Hana suppressed her own abilities for years, appearing to be a weak practitioner. On her fifteenth birthday, her powers erupt to an extraordinary degree, surpassing even Hazuki's. Desperate for a quiet life, Hana hides her strength, but Saku Ichinomiya, the arrogant new head of the Ichinomiya clan, discovers her secret. He proposes a contract marriage to combine their magical energy to repair a critical barrier pillar. Hana agrees only when Saku offers a substantial monetary reward and a chance to finally leave her family behind. The series follows their slow-burn relationship as Hana learns to trust Saku, discovers her own self-worth, and navigates the complex politics of the magical noble families.

Author Kureha debuted with this series and maintains a low public profile. Illustrator Bodax brings the characters to life with delicate, expressive designs that capture Hana's quiet strength and Saku's guarded vulnerability. The first light novel volume was published in Japan on December 21, 2021 under Kadokawa Shoten's Kadokawa Bunko imprint. As of June 2026, seven volumes have been released. The English translation by Linda Liu is licensed by Yen Press under their Yen On imprint, with the first volume released on January 17, 2023.

The series has found a devoted fanbase for its nuanced portrayal of trauma recovery and the quiet, earned romance between two people learning to open up. Readers on MyAnimeList rate it 7.6/10, praising the emotional depth and character growth, while some note familiar arranged-marriage tropes. It has appeared on Oricon's light novel bestseller lists. Two simultaneous manga adaptations exist: one illustrated by Kiiro Yumi serialized in Comic Dengeki Daioh since March 2022, and another by Odayaka in B's Log Comic starting the same month. An audio drama starring Rie Takahashi as Hana and Kaito Ishikawa as Saku was released in 2022. An anime television series produced by Studio Bind, directed by Toru Kitahata with scripts by Yuko Kakihara, is scheduled to premiere in January 2025.
